Surgeons for Smiles provides a wide range of surgical services including:

  • Cleft Lip and Palate repair

  • Gynecologic surgeries—Hysterectomies, etc.

  • General Surgical procedures—Hernia repairs, Thyroid surgery

  • Dental services—dental fillings, removal of teeth and dental cleanings

Team members, depending on each mission and trip, include:

  • Maxillofacial surgeons

  •  Gynecologic surgeons

  • General surgeons

  • Anesthesiologists and Anesthetists

  • Registered Nurses—Critical Care, Pediatrics, Recovery Room, Medical/Surgical

  • Surgical Assistants

  • Support staff—Instrument cleaning and set-up

  • Logistical support personnel

Schedule
Number of Surgeries

The number of surgeries varies according to each mission, location and number of team members, but on average, Surgeons for Smiles typically offers:

  • 35-50 Cleft Lip/ Cleft Palate repairs

  • 25-30 Gynecologic surgeries

  • 20-30 General Surgery (thyroid cases)

  • 30-50 Hernia repairs

  • 75-100 Dental patients

  • Miscellaneous abdominal procedures

Please note these numbers are dependent on types of cases, capacity of facilities and availability of specific team members.

 

A typical Surgeon for Smiles mission is seven (7) days with a sample schedule being:

Surgeons for Smiles is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those in need. All donations will be maximized for direct patient care, with administrative costs being kept at a minimum.
